Swanmore was originally a tithing mainly within the parish of Droxford but also partly within Bishops Waltham.

The south-eastern boundary is the River Meon, the boundary extends west towards Waltham Chase and Bishops Waltham with the northern point being close to Dundridge.  Upper Swanmore is a hamlet in the north with Hill Pound a settlement a short distance from the village.  Droxford is 2.5 miles to the north-east, Bishops Waltham is 1.5 miles to the north-west and Fareham is 8 miles south.  The A32 runs through part of the eastern side of the parish.  Among the local family names appearing across the centuries are DOLLAR, KNIGHT, BLACKMAN, and WOODMAN.

This twelve page booklet includes a great deal of historical information covering Swanmore and includes not only the gentry but also the teachers and ordinary people.  To assist with your research, useful references for Swanmore documents and records held at the Hampshire Record Office are given throughout, together with other sources and website addresses for more information.
