Soberton, (VB107) is large parish east of the River Meon, 5 miles south-east of Bishops Waltham and 8 miles north of Fareham with the B2150 running across the northern part.

The hamlet of Newtown in the south became a separate ecclesiastical parish in 1850 although the whole area is still governed by Soberton and Newtown Parish Council. The A32 runs alongside the nearby Meon Valley branch line of the LSWR that ran from Alton to Fareham through the parish from 1903 until its closure in 1962.

The northern part is farmland with the woods in the south being a remnant of the old Forest of Bere along with a traditional mix of market gardens.  Among the local family names appearing across the centuries are KNIGHT, WHITE, PAFFORD and HOLMES.
