Nowes account book 1756-1831
Might you find the school records of one of your ancestors in Romsey? This work is the result of a joint venture between the Romsey History Society (LTVAS) and HGS.
John Nowes was a wealthy barrister who left money in his will (proved in 1719) for three schools to be set up in his name. They were created in Somerset, Hampshire and Wiltshire and were run by his daughter, Jane.
The school account books have been scanned and transcribed over a number of years. The results are now available for us to see by clicking here –> Account books.
