New venue for Andover group

The Andover committee is pleased to announce that we have secured a new venue for our monthly HGS meetings – Picket Piece Hall in Andover. Meetings will continue to be held on the usual second Thursday of each month.

We have enjoyed our monthly meetings in the Weyhill Fairground Hall for many years – it has served us well but now has its limitations. Also, there has been a 50% rise in the hall hire charges since April 2023. The committee have all visited the new hall and we feel sure that it will make a positive difference to the society, enabling us to run better, more inclusive, meetings.

The positives are;

  • Exclusive access to a newly refurbished hall with access to the kitchen
  • A built-in projector with a drop-down screen and sound system
  • Free general wi-fi that does not require a password (so we can all use the Internet)
  • We can plan for future meetings to include access to genealogical websites for live and interactive research
  • Free parking, outdoor lighting and CCTV
  • Dimmable lights and heating controls mean we can adjust levels to suit our requirements – we can operate either cool air conditioning or increase warmth levels

There are a couple of downsides – the hall does not supply crockery or a kettle (but we will continue to serve hot drinks using disposable or personal cups). Also, we have had to discontinue the library as storage is too expensive.

We look forward to welcoming any HGS members at our next meeting on Thursday 11th September;

Helpers are always welcome to set up chairs and provide refreshments. Doors open 7pm – be there in good time to chat and see our new venue at Picket Piece hall.!
