Donating items to HGS
Have you accumulated or acquired family and local history-related items that you no longer need? If they are predominantly Hampshire-focused, we may be able to give them a new home.
For your convenience, below are listed items we will be happy to accept and items we will not…
Items we will accept:
- Family Trees related predominantly to Hampshire families
- Wills, and other probate documents, related to Hampshire families
- Family Histories, related predominantly to Hampshire families, in typed or manuscript form including drafts, with supporting information, references or citations
- Hampshire family records extracted from Family Bibles
- Birth, marriage and death (BMD) certificates – originals or good copies
- Photographs of Hampshire people identified by name, date and occasion if accompanying a Family Tree or Family History
- Records of Britons Dying Overseas (BDOs)
- Local history books of Hampshire cities, towns and villages; also, those relating to areas where the HGS Bookstall regularly attends fairs and shows
- New books for review if the subject is related to Hampshire family genealogy and, after review, to be added to the HGS Reference Library or passed to the Bookstall or Sales Manager
- New or second-hand General, Family, Military and Hampshire History books are also acceptable
Items we will NOT accept:
- Newspapers
- Extracts from published books
- Internet and IGI printouts
- Microfiche
- CDs
- Photographs not meeting the criteria above
- Family heirlooms such as Bibles, clothing, retirement gifts, etc.
- Family History magazines
- Family History journals, including those of HGS
We appreciate and thank wholeheartedly anyone who donates appropriate items to the Society which enables us to further encourage the study of family history.
