The Village Booklet on Medstead explores this ancient Hampshire village, near the market town of Alton.
The booklet contains many references to sources in the Hampshire Records Office, and provides an excellent starting point for researching the history of Medstead.
Along with a useful map showing Medstead and its contiguous settlements, are descriptions of places of worship, past and present. Furthermore, it contains the surnames of over fifty Medstead past inhabitants, from school master and inn keeper to landowner. While sources as diverse as Hearth Taxes, Enclosure Awards and Trade Directories are also explored.
