*ARCHIVE* New exhibition – The Valerie Bacon Archive

The Valerie Bacon Archive – ‘Living with War in Emsworth’ is now on display at the Portsmouth History Centre on the third floor of the Central Library.

The exhibition is drawn from her collection of diaries written during the years of the Second World War. Her diary entries were never meant to record the war as a historical record, but simply to document aspects of her own daily life, but in doing so, have captured elements of the war and the impact it had on Valerie and daily life in Emsworth and the surrounding area. There are many references to Portsmouth within the exhibition and because of Valerie’s love of acting and the theatre we have included just some of the wonderful photographs of her theatrical performances from the archive.

There is a talk to accompany the exhibition ‘Unwrapping the Valerie Bacon Archive‘ at The Menuhin Room in Central Library on Wednesday 30 November at 10.30am.

Please contact the Portsmouth History Centre to book a seat. Booking for this is advisable.
